Title: Lost to Time: The Missing Motorama Dream Cars
Post by: themoose on January 26, 2017, 08:17:23 PM
This article is pretty interesting and talks about some of the "Motorama Dream Cars". Some of the cars have become lost in time and some tend to make you wonder what the design engineers were thinking.

They built some really wild concepts back in the day.  I remember seeing some of my Dad's car mags with these very futuristic cars in them.  The jet age had a lot of influence back then.

I went to cars shows and seen some of the prototypes and thought they were really neat and never understood why they never went into production

How about the "turbine" style hubcaps on the Club De Mer? I've seen something like that in later cars. :)

Those C1 Corvettes were noted for having bad lower door panel to rocker panel alignment...looking at that 54 Corvette Corvair...it also had the same condition? Hard to believe such a beautiful car was neglected in that area..but fiberglass was new back then.

BECAUSE THE BEAN COUNTERS RUNNING THE COMPANY SAID COULD NOT SELL ENOUGH TO MAKE SERIOUS PROFIT.  TODAY SINCE 90'S AND BEFORE  ITS ALL ABOUT PLATFORMS..........SAME CHASSIS FOR BUICK REGAL, CHEV LUMINA, PONTIAC GRAND PRIX, OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME, JUST THE SHEET METAL AND MOTOR CHANGED BRAND TO BRAND.

FEW YEARS AGO FORD PRODUCED A SHOW CAR CALLED THE 500, VERY SIMILAR TO A 49---51 FORD, WAS VERY SLICK, LOOKED LIKE A KENDIG OR FOOSE DESIGN.  ONLY THING THAT SURVIVED WAS 500 NAME PUT ONTO SOMETHING BORING

that Buick is ridiculous in its styling.  looks like they were stealing ideas from everybody else, especially the tail fins.  Only a few of these designs actually made it too production.  The buick , I have no idea of what part of it made it to production.  Same could be said of most of these designs.

Its like watching the fashion offerings on the New York, Paris runways on TV news coverage.    After 5 MINUTES you say to yourself ,  who in their right mind would actually be seen on the street or grand ball.  Near the end the fashion designer minces onto the runway to applause ??????????  really .  They are giving him applause for HIDEOUS clothing.

Wheres the GONG SHOW PANEL when you really need them.

Does the Mad in mad mike reflect angry or crazy? That old Buick concept is beautiful.  :) There was even a Cadillac version.

I bet if they actually starting producing "any" of those old cars today..they would sell.  Typical production cars today are boring..I can't tell the difference among a Honda, Chevy, Ford, Toyota until I get up close and read the company logos.

The trucks are still distinguishable.

Now if they could sell a new car for under $10K..that would sell ;)

I did a rendering of a Cadillac coupe concept for someone on another site that I think would make a great ride if he decides to build it....

All I can draw is flies! :o
Nice Cad I hope he goes for it. I'd like to follow the build.
Edny, They all look alike because of milage regulations. There are few shapes that pass the wind tunnel tests. Eventually they will all look like rain drops with wheels. ;D

2 guys duked it out on stage at barrett Jackson few years ago for the 53 olds let out of captivity by General Motors museum.. One guy with a Ferrari hat and jacket representing a new museum wanted it badly and believe he paid $3.5 million to own it for his bosses .
Next year gm released a 53 or 54 Pontiac that went for less.
Following that a GM bus from 1950, one of 5 originals , sold at BJ for serious coin to a bald guy scoffing ice cream out of a cup while bidding .  Nice when your a GOTZ  to so ***las-e-fair***  ( spelling ??? )  while throwing around millions .
