I am in the process of replacing the universal joints in my steering setup as they excess play in the existing ones.  If I read the instructions correctly, where the joint is 3/4" to 1" DD it calls for drilling the long set screw into one wall of the shaft but not all the way through the entire shaft to the second wall.  Is this correct?

The other 3/4 universal connection just call for dimpling the shaft for the set screw in set in.

Also is Borgenson a good joint to use?

Yes borgesion is a great joint. If the shaft is a smooth round it would be wise to drill most of the way through for the set screw to get a good seat, and possibly weld also. On any DD shaft the dimpling is always recomended, and is a good idea

I didn't use Borgeson, but from what I have seen and heard, Borgeson is top of the line.
I don't remember the brand name that I used, but it is also double D and all I did was drill a small dimple into the double D shaft to lock the bar into place. The last thing you want is for your steering shaft to slip out I also think if you were to drill completely through the shaft you may compromise the integrity of the shaft.

By the way I have a brand new borgeson 3/4 inch DD to 1 inch DD I'm not needing.  I just looked up the steel one like mine. $92.00 From Borgeson. WHEW     I will let mine go for $50.00 plus shipping.

I apply thread lock to the set screw  and also to the nut on the set screw.....

It's a personal preference, but I don't ever use a rag joint on a hot rod. Unless you have a lot of vibration from the road you want to get rid of, Borgeson and others  make a inline vibration reducer for modifed steering.

From experience try not to buy those Chinese made joints..they seem to be larger in overall size and have a lot of U-Joint play even when brand new.
