Well it's been mentioned on some of the other threads so I figured I'd start a thread about it. Tomorrow Friday October 30 is my last (full time) day at work. Hard to believe it came up so fast! My boss did talk me into working two days a week, 4 hours a day to train my replacement. I'm a CAD designer for a company that manufactures electrical connectors. I'm in the group that designs the tools to install those connectors. Pictured below is one of the tools my team designed. It applies 12 tons of force on the connector to install it on to the conductor. It's been a great run of 20 years with the same company! Lots of tools designed and my name on several patents. Now time to focus on family, especially home schooling the grandkids during these crazy times.

Congratulations ...on your upcoming retirement and last full time day......no story to tell but felt like a slacker when I retired...took some time to get use to....like every day is a Saturday.....enjoy yourself...

I've been retired from teaching for 20 years and I don't miss it a bit. 31 years was plenty. Telling a teacher they must love children is like telling a bartender they must love drunks. ::) I miss the way it was when I started and miss the small close community we used to have here but there is no way I could do it now. I tried substituting twice. No thank you! I did a few years of part time auto parts counterman work mostly for access to the old books and the discount. My first job was at CarQuest and it was great until my boss sold the business to a jerk. Five of us had actually run the store for several months when the boss was sick. The new owner didn't trust us. The new owner took our keys and changed the combination on the safe and the code on the alarm. Three of us quit the same day. He went out of business in less than 6 months. I got a job at Kragen that afternoon. I stayed there until CSK was bought by O'Reilly. I lasted a couple of years with O'Reilly but it wasn't fun anymore so I quit. The books had gone away and their computer system had very little search capability and no cross reference of part numbers. Had better books at home that I had picked up at CarQuest when the new ones came. Now I don't know when I ever found time to work. I just putter around home. It takes a lot to keep this place going with the 2 miles of road to sorta' maintain, solar power to keep going, wood to cut and keeping the water from the springs going where I need it. Crap just the weeds alone are a task but I'm stuck here. I've lost all my social skills and could not deal well with neighbors. I get ticked when I hear loud motorcycles on the highway 4 miles away. :o It reminds me of Abe Lincoln's dad saying when you could hear your neighbor's ax it's time to move. ;D

Retirement frees you up to take on another stage in life...now complete as many stages as possible.
Can't believe its been 15 years for me already.

Congratulation Tom As for me my last day of work will be Feb.28th. I've been a power transmission salesman for 37 years. I'll give a little more detail on what I do when it it gets closer to my retirement date.

Congratulations Tom! And, congrats to those of you who have retired, and those about to retire. I have 62 days left until my retirement. That will give me about 39 1/2 years with the city. That's enough for anyone! And, we are getting clobbered right now because a police officer shot and killed a guy who was coming after him with a knife. The locals think that's an excuse to smash windows and loot businesses.

Yeah, We've all been hearing about that. I forgot you are there. Be careful and look out for yourself and your fellow officers. In this climate you won't get treated like a hero for doing the right thing. Didn't Biden say they should have shot the attacker in the leg? A guy with a knife within 20 feet is a real danger. I'm not a knife expert but someone might be able to get a gun away from me without getting shot but it wold tougher for them to take a knife without getting cut, unless they had a gun. That is the reason cops cary guns, to protect themselves and others.
I read this morning that Wall Mart took all of its guns and ammo off of the sales floors in all of their stores to keep them away from looters. They are still for sale but not on the sales floor. Probably not much ammo left in the stores anyway.
