Title: V-8 in A S-10
Post by: FATnLOW on May 23, 2022, 06:49:06 PM
Anyone put a V-8 in a S-10?? I have a clean S-10 body but motor is bad...thinking of doing a S-10 swap,  I am aware that there is a kit for these , motor mounts , headers, and radiator update, wanting to go 350 with 350 transmission  with a carburetor set up...looking for a running vehicle so I can do the swap..still have a lot of information gathering to do....any thoughts?...have priced a Vin 5 s-10 rebuilt motor, and feel that the price is outrageous, and I think I would get more fun with the V-8 set up

Haven't done it but you're right, a 350 in an S10 sounds like fun!

Yep, sounds like fun Ed. Can't be that hard, there were a bunch around here done with out kits.

Think you have to relocate block mount and maybe trans cross member modify(?)  Transdapt makes new frame mount and block adapter plate (#9906) ? for just over $100 on Amazon.

My Uncle done several 350 swaps. First on all self fabbed and using rear dump GM cast iron exhaust manifolds. Others he used the shorty (clipped?) swap headers.

Like my uncle always said....just do it and don't over think it😁

A guy here did one with a 383. It was crazy squirrelly and very fast. Very low and most of the bed was tires.

Just thinking...those S10 trucks came with a V6 (4.3) and 700R4 trans.  The V8 would bolt up to that 700R4..eliminating drive shaft and linkage mods. You could then concentrate on the radiator, engine mounts and headers.

I had a full size GMC short bed 4x4 with a 4.3 V6 and truck 4 speed. I wish I still had it. It never lacked power for anything I asked of it including pulling a two horse trailer all over this state into some pretty tough spots while deer hunting.

I did one back in the early 2000's.  Used a 350 out of a '73 Nova with a TH350.  Wasn't a hard swap.  I do remember getting motor mounts and headers for the swap.  I believe I used the radiator from the Nova as well.  I do remember that I had to "massage" the firewall a little for the distributor, but had clearance for the heater box and everything else.  As sixball said, you could pretty much punch it at any speed and light up the tires.  I only ran a 235/75r15 on the back on some old American Racing coke bottles.  I will have to see if I can find any old pictures of it.
