We attended the Great Western Steam Up to celebrate the 4th & the 150 Birthday if the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. It was great so many Steam engines fired up at once! Plus all the train rides you could stand pulled by several different standard & narrow gauge engines, Also blacksmithing demonstrations,a steam fire pumper, a steam launch, steam mule, steam printing press, steam powered ice cream maker. access to the Nevada State Railroad Museum & shops. Food, beer, music......... all in one spot! The best event I have attended in a long time!

R.I.P. to Chris Darnell,   driver of the jet powered semi truck Shockwave.  Crashed yesterday.
Saw his trucks a few years ago at the dragstrip.

Happy Independence Day!!! I'm a little late, I was helping my son celebrate his birthday, who turned 21 on the 4th! Hic!!! Now I need a day or two to dry out

Rattiac, It was a great event. I didn't take any pictures just didn't know where ti start. Everyone else was and I'm sure some will show up somewhere. It was so neat to be able to walk right up to the engines in the yard and talk with the crews. So much knowledge and history. You have all seen many of these engines in movies. One if them #18  was a hulk sitting on Highway 395 in the town of Independence where we drove by it on every trip to SOCAL. It is a narrow gauge and ran on the Carson & Colorado , a 300 mile railroad with a very unique history.  It was restored in 2017 by mostly volunteers and now has it's own shed in a museum in Independence. It is so cool that so many if these engines are being restored. We need more track for them! I was surprised to see that the map at the Nevada Railroad Museum shows NO railroads in central Nevada where there were several. Many were temporary, short, and were pulled up and moved when mines plated out. Little is known of them.

Sixball, thats a pretty cool way to spend a couple days!  There are quite a few Youtube videos of last weekend already posted. Looks like a good time.

I spent sunday and monday night in the basement trying to keep the dog calm, he was shaking like a leaf and stuck to me like glue🥴 I forgot that last year when i got him he was scared. The neighbors family always shows up, and they are 4 hours straight with the big booms.  Not much is illegal here it seems.

Sixball, my wife and rode the Virginia & Truckee Railroad when we visited Virginia City the last time.  Very cool history!

Yes Tom, That is a fun ride. Now some of the rides go all the way to Moundhouse a mile or two from Carson. When we got here the old tracks still crossed Highway 50.  Next time you come back I'll get you a tour if the shops. My good friend works there and the owner Tom Gray is a good guy. His father got that end of the V&T going several tears ago with mostly his own money & sweat. Then the state got interested. The State museum in Carson City is worth a look. This was the friendliest event I've attended since the '60s but I won't have to take penicillin after this one. 

I talked to some guys from Willits CA who are putting on a steam event there i September. The Skunk train is based there but they will be firing up some logging equipment and a big steam shovel! I may go to that.
