1935 chevy starter
«

When I use the floor started button it takes 2-3 times before the starter ingages into the flywheel it will free spin. Do I need a new starter or is this fixable.
Thanks
Dave

If I had to guess I would say that the first thing you should check your starter drive. It sounds like the starter motor is working properly if you can hear it spinning which means that the drive gear is not being thrust into the flywheel. You might want to try taking the starter out and making sure that there isn't something causing the drive to hang on the starter shaft. I have seen cases where something as simple and old and hardened grease on the shaft will cause the drive to stick. If you don't see any obvious broken or worn parts such as the teeth on the drive and flywheel try cleaning everything up and re-lube it and see what happens. If all else fails replace the drive assembly. They are still readily available.

Sounds to be like your solenoid might be the issue. I have a place near me that rebuilds starters. Search around

Hey 32chevy
If it's a stock 35 Chevy starter then there is no solenoid and David seems to be saying that the starter spins but doesn't engage the flywheel so with all things considered I felt that the drive might be the most likely culprit.

Just my two cents, but I am with Moose, I would suspect the starter drive too. You might try The Filling Station for a new starter drive.
