Title: PowerGlide trans ID
Post by: EDNY on August 15, 2014, 08:03:24 PM
Just popped the 305 engine out of my sons 37 Chevy. The drive line was just sitting in there ...wrong driveline angle etc.

Anyway the Powerglide was attached to a 1985 305 engine...before I get rid of them would like to ID the tranny , year, application etc.  What is the location for any suffix codes on the 2 speed trans?  It has the longer tail shaft (14.25) like used on the vettes...just want to understand what I have before getting rid of it.

Thanks
Ed

Ed I don't think the early cast iron versions had an ID code but the 62 and up aluminum did. Hemmings has a good article.

Ed, I don't know if this will help. Might be worth a quick read.
