Are there any negatives to using spark plug wires kits so you can custom make your lengths? Any recommendations?

Are there any negatives to using spark plug wires kits so you can custom make your lengths? Any recommendations?
I used a Tylor 8mm Pro Wire Universal Spark Plug Wire Set 135 degree but they also have 90 degree. Easy to install and have been in use for 7 years and no sign of a problem or deterioration where they come in close proximity to the headers. Many years ago I got a make-it-yourself set that came with a crimping tool. I still have the tool, one end goes in a vise, then the wire with fitting and then pop the other end of the tool with a hammer. Works great. When doing a small block I get the longer big block wires and route them under the headers, make hangers that screw into the 1/4 x 20 bosses on the block. This makes the wires sort of disappear. I also use black wires.

I too have Taylor wires on my builds ...I haven't experienced any problems with them...as like 39delux i still have the crimpers and piece that you put on the vice to do the wire end installation.....

If you are going to use a cut to length set, make sure you get a good crimp tool. It will make all the difference in the world !!!! I have used Taylors forever without issues but recently found out that they are made in china. I don't know if they always have been or not but I have noticed that the quality has dropped a bit. I switched over to another brand that I cary and sell, they are 10.5mm and have had just as good luck with them. If you are interested I can shoot you a price on both sets, I might be able to save you a little change.

Nothing but MSD. They also have a very good wire crimper.

The spark plug wire holders are made by STREET AND PERFORMANCE in Mena ARK and they bolt into the special holes that come on the aluminum HO series heads. There is also another adjustable bracket that mounts to the back of the cylinder head > I put those on my 35 coupe back in 1996 and the wires if black virtually disappear for a real clean appearance..
I also bought a set off ebay for my 35 roadster to use , down the road when we get that far.

Thanks for the input guys. Do you know if either Taylor or MSD have a kit with straight distributer connectors? They would work better because of location of the firewall.

you should be able to google their websites and poke around in your application to find out.
Or telephone Taylor Vertex in PENN ??? usually these places have toll free numbers, costs nothing to talk to order desk.

munch MSD does. As 39 delux said, buy the big block wires and you can run them any way you need too. All spark plug wire mfg's have almost any setup you need. MSD boots are more heat resistant. Been to MSD in El Paso and was shown all wire's on market and how they performed. Some wires were pretty impressive when others failed. Ron
