HAVE A FIX ? (For anything) / Re: 2nd life for an old thread tap.« Last post by EDNY on April 06, 2024, 09:26:15 PM »I am back working on the 1936 trail lamp stands and the housings and needed a small cutting tip to use in my die grinder. Cleaning up die cast type ZA castings plugs up the cutting edge on rotary grinding tools. I tried a 1/4" tap in my die grinder and it will cut fairly well and we all have old taps just laying around. Welcome back Coley, I'm finally joining the "Visits to the Doctor Group"...been years since I felt I needed the visit...just turned 73 but finally the prostrate demon has caught up with me! Tough going on trips, heading out to Missouri this May...should be an interesting road trip. BTW: Welcome Back to vette59jdwl over a year and half? 43

I made the motor mounts in anticipation of having 2 more cylinders. 44

Open heart surgery, aneaurisms and stents, sorta slows one down. I have been busy with making all the truck headlight stands for 1937 to 40 Chevys and GMCs. Turned 81 last year, but still try to work 6 1/2 days each week. 45

Early Chevy/GM Discussion / Re: 1932 Pontiac Six build« Last post by Essex_29 on April 06, 2024, 04:14:40 PM »I do have six more cylinders, but the engine is actually almost exactly as long as a small block
Chevrolet with a long water pump. so I guess your engine might actually be longer than mine. Looks like the steering shaft, 3/4" D-D, goes pretty close to the headers. Funny that there's never too much space, even if it looks good at the planning stage. Regarding the horn button, maybe it's just a switch which lets the electrons flow from one terminal to the other when you press the button? 47

Actually, no one knows how it will actually fit with all its accessories. Right now I have no idea how I'll get some kind of oil filtration system to fit on the driver's side under where the power steering pump will mount. Also, I have planned on running a mechanical fan, but right now I think there's a chance I'll have to run an electric one and I really wouldn't want that. In any case, the technicals fit just fine so far, where it was three months ago. The engine and transmission along with the propshaft are mounted and the pinion angle checked. Lots of visual progress today, and to me, a chassis close to ready like this is fun to just look at. Close to ready is an illusion, of course, lots missing still. 48

Parts came in and today I hooked up the new borgensen joint and shaft. Seems huge due to the 1"dd on the column end . Re-entered the steering wheel. Hopefully I can get to the linkage and wiring this weekend. The significant other wants to spring clean. Wondering about the horn button. This steering wheel has 2 wires. 49

quite a bit to get it done. I must have gotten the clutch plate a tad off center. I had to buy a few fastners today, for bolting the bellhousing to the engine. Some of the bolts that came with the adapter kit were a bit too short for my liking. I have some after market gauges, and ofcourse the temp sender doesn't fit. I went to a hydraulic shop, and they had a thingy that fit the thread in my engine, but not to the sender. So a guy put the thingy in the lathe, chopped it off, drilled a bigger hole through it, and ran a tap through it, so now the sender fits. The thingymajig, the labour and a cupper washer amounted to the grand total of 16 ?uros. That's about $17.50. Unbelievable. They took pity in me, I guess. |
