I am getting ready to purchase a standalone harness for my 2001 5.3 vortec and 4L60E trans for a drive by wire setup. Can anyone suggest a vendor with good support? This is my first time out with an LS and I'm pretty much over my head...

Why not make your own...I made a couple with no problems. You'll just need someone to flash the pcm.

As far as a vendor, I think Painless is still pretty reliable.

That video was made by LT1SWAP.COM...great site. I can see the wire color chart that indicates which wires can be deleted.
I like to print images of the connectors and check off each circuit (pin) as they are completed. If you know what gears, tire size and transmission you have...get the PCM flashed (for about $100) to remove VATS, downstream O2 sensors, EGR etc, etc.

You want a harness long enough to locate the ECM inside, plug and play with support I recommend PSI Conversions. They have given me excellent support, reprogrammed my ECM twice at no cost to me and even answered questions on the weekend.

Don't want to hijack this thread but sorta the same subject. Yes, fuel injection requires a learning curve. How deep you want to get into it is up to you but the more you learn the simpler it gets. A wiring harness will only plug in one way (unless you use a hammer) so keep plugging things in until there are no more dangling plug and you are done. I think the hardest part is the fuel system. Need a pump that will deliver the required pressure and a return line. Most, if not all, have a family car or truck that has FI. Cold mornings start the car, pull it into gear and off you go. No stumbles, dies or backfires. 5000 foot altitude change, no problem, regular gas and just about never change plugs. New tools required such as a noid light and fuel pressure gauge (0 to 100). No dwell meter, no timing light. Code reader $5 on your phone. Argument both ways but I find FI to be less of a hassle.

I put a Holley Sniper unit on my 32, had few issues in tuning it even thought its self learning. Had to send it back to the factory to have it looked at, got it back so far it runs great.

The more you learn about EFI...the easier it is to understand. Once set up...just reach in (after months of storage), turn the key and go. Fuel mileage will increase significantly also.

I know a couple of guys who have used PSI. They say their customer support is second to none. Especially if you are new to LS motors.

There's no question in my mind that FI is the way to go, overall, but you know what they say about old habits...…….
