Title: 11/32 rivets?
Post by: sixball on May 01, 2021, 11:26:31 AM
I'm working on the '26 roadster frame and I'm ready to put the front crossmember back in. I want to use rivets and measuring the holes it looks like they are 11/32". I have looked on the internet and can not find any. Does any one here if I'm looking for the right size and where I can get them. I could re-drill all the holes and go to 3/8" but I'd rather not do that.  A 11/32" drill goes in the holes but a 23/64" won't.

Sixball I did some searching, ran on to "67-72 Chevy truck site. They were discussing 11/32" frame rivets, say rare. A guy popped on and said "rivetsinstock.com" (JC (Jay Cee)) probably had them. I found the site, phone # 248-478-2150. Found under "small solid round head rivets under 7/16".  Might be worth a call or visit site, sure beat drilling all to 3/8" if they have them availible😁
Hope this link works for you,

Thanks Sammons, I found the JC site and they do list 11/32 solid steel round heads but when I click to shop on line they are not listed. I'll try calling them Monday. If I could find 9mm it wouldn't be hard at all to drill them. They may be easier to find. (0.34375 to 0.354331) On the crossmember there are 10 holes and I have to drill 8 of them in the frame anyway.

Purist, I shouldn't have mentioned it.  ::)  I found this great how to today. I'll probably go 3/8" just a 32nd bigger and plentiful.

25 3/8" x 1 1/4" rivets arrived today. The forming tool came a few days ago. These will work fine. Some of the old holes accept them. Maybe stretched a bit. I've also noticed some poorly formed heads on several of the originals. If I can I'll fix them. I'll need a smaller tool.

What kind of rust treatment would you suggest between the frame and crossmember? Will it just burn out anyway?

Sixball, I use John Deere "Blitz Black" rattle can. I heat up the areas (under both pieces) as hot as i can get it with a propane bottle torch, then spray (quench) it with Blitz. It's there to stay and heat won"t take it off. I'm sure there are plenty of weld thru primers/paints out there, but personally like the Blitz.

Thanks, I have some of that. My son's Studebaker wagon is Blitz Black. Been sitting out for years and still cleans up well. I wish I'd used it on my pickup. I have Rust Doctor too and you can weld through it.

Man my elbows and wrists are screeming just watching that🥴 Must be Pakistan, those guys do some crazy stuff with very little and in risky ways , but seems to work well. You should see them patch/stitch a hole in the sidewall of a big truck tire🤯

Check out youtube  PakistanTruck postings😁

They make a great team & their timing is amazing. The hammer guy's swing is fun to watch.

Something about molting steel and sandals don't go together
