I'm sure some of you may have seen my Astro in the background of pictures of the 30. Well after 35 years of service, I sold her Saturday. It sure feels empty around here, but I've got some great memories...

Hey Munch, glad to see your still around! Amazing the ties you can make to vehicals. Probably 80% of the ones i have had, all bring back good or atleast fun memories. ;D Even if I only owned them for several months!
How is your Chevy pick up build going?
I've had my R/T for 46yrs now. Lots of firsts time memories in that car during Jr high and high school. First big HP car, drag race and well into the tripple digit speeds, etc. Couldn't sell it period, even though since the late 80s its only been out of town a hand full times ;D

Munch I had a couple Astro vans including one (cargo) that I put 320,000 miles on ... my Harley fit in there nicely. One was the exact same color as yours. I always have an eye open for a 2Wd Astro van around here...but with the rust up here...not many left. I do remember that the Astro vans with 4.3 loved eating up head gaskets on the passenger side :o

munch........is that common knowledge for the 4.3 to eat up right side head gaskets. My 2003---4.3--- S10 with about 140,000 kilometers about 85,000 miles has never been apart.
As the former GASKET KING , I would suggest maybe the head is warped, or the block deck ?
Most common problem is cylinder head bolts being over tightened without a torque wrench. Only have to stretch one to continually cause a problem. That might have been the problem with your Astro .
Typical scenario is finding wet plug with water in cylinder discovered by seeing white steam out tailpipe. Identifying the cylinder then using 18--24" long bar to tighten.

Munch, I'm way too sentimental about inanimate things. I think they all have feelings. Don't know if it's the Disney thing (Bambi syndrome) or my Native American blood (less than Elisabeth Warren) but it makes it hard to abandon old friends even if it's worn out bottle jack. :( ;D

Munch, the first vehicle my wife and I bought together was an Astro van when we were getting ready for our first child. I think it was a 1987. It was a nice truck, did what we needed it to do. Nice R/T Sammons, I've had my Mustang for 44 years, it will go to my boys.

Great looking car Sammons. Yes, I'm still here. On the truck project the chassis is built to a roller, the cab is body worked floor boards and rocker replaced. I am finishing up a 2001 5.3 and still need to get the 4L60E rebuilt.
Now that Big Red is gone I will need to fast track...
