What garage door openers are you guy's using ???
I bought a Chamberlain belt drive opener about a year and a half ago. Biggest piece of junk I've had.
While closing it , it stops at half way and goes back up , and when it does close sometimes it pushes the door down and starts to buckle.
Tried everything about 100x to adjust. Well not much adjustments , only up/down. No sensitivity or such controls.
Of course Chamberlain isn't much help only a year warranty. Lowe's also. 😠
The door guys want $400+ for thiers, and they say is much better quality. (sales pitch)
For now it's unplugged/disconnected till I get another one.

I have a 3 stall garage. All 3 have Liftmaster Door Openers. They were installed 14 years ago when we built the garage and I haven't had any issues with them.

unplug the connection from opener. Make it into a manual hand opened. Your opener should have springs wound up across the top of the door opening , that allows you to manually open the door easily. Be carefull with those springs.
if you do not have a dead bolt type to lock it on either side, home depot and pad lock.
Why not call in a repair person who knows the unit and pay the repair fee. Probably something simple your overlooking, if not get out the gun and give it a shot.
am out of the penalty box again after 30 days

Rattiac my 2 car house garage is a lift master with a belt drive and 10 years old and my rear 6 car garage I have 10 x 10 insulated also Coplay doors with the motor drive on the ends of a coil spring! I had 3 properties installed with these Coplay insulated with glass panels doors all installed for less than the cost at Lowe’s or Home Depot! Plus I also have have FREE service if I have any problems later! I just emailed my door guy and he doesn’t think it’s a big problem! Here’s his text! On last note always have a power surge protector on the motor plug in receptacle! Mainly for power surges caused from lightning strikes which in turn will fry out the motor control board! RoarsRods

My Garage door is 10' high x16' wide. If you ever saw me back up is the reason for the large door. My door opener is :" Ron pushes it open and closed."......Ron
-
My door is 8 1/2' high x 12' wide. Actually the door is 10' high but the hole is only 8 1/2'. The opener is the same brand as Ron's. :o I was thinking of welding a socket one the roll up shaft and opening it with an impact wrench. ::)

My woman called a garage guy and he thought the belt was slipping down and jamming the gear cause it didn't have a flange on the bottom (like the top of the gear).
Paid $60 and it did it again a few days later. 😕
He said my install looked right, everything was at the right angles, ect. He quoted me $700 for a new opener.
He told me all the garage door opener companies are owned by one company. With different levels of quality.
There's commercial quality that install companies have and consumer quality which is liftmaster and Chamberlain.
Chamberlain is the bottom feeder brand while liftmaster is a step up.
I guess I'll hit up home depot for a lift master when I get the funds.
Right now im the opener.
Oh yeah I had new springs put in last year .
Chamberlain sent me a new gear unit but not worth installing since im sure the circuit board is shot.

Might and should be able to get the cog belt retainer off tack weld a piece of correct size pipe to the bottom where its supposedly causing the problem, and create a fix .
I had heard that that brand of opener pretty well dominated the market. Plus the people selling and doing repairs is one big conglomerate, they are here. You go thru phone book listings and always same voice on other end. Don't think haVING A MONOPOLY LIKE THAT is legal federally. Fake news ?
Getting a service guy to show up here is $90 just for the hello i am here to screw you from the monopoly company. They carve up the city into zones of who serves what area. Must be MAFIA like with garbage collection in NY and other big cities.

New unit was installed today $410. It's a chain drive but way quieter than the crappy belt drive.
All hail the mighty lift master. 😁

Here's some interesting info the garage guy was telling me.
California made it mandatory that all garage door openers must have a battery backup installed.
During the fire's🔥, cause of the power outages they were finding bodies in the garages. Simply because they didn't know (or too stupid) about the emergency pull cord and was stuck inside.
Sounds like Commiefornia is hazardous to your health.

Speaking of garage doors, dumb people and California:
Sad News About Brad - Brad lived in California and was a lifelong environmentalist. He was sick of the world; of Covid-19, Brexit, Russian belligerence, global warming, racial tensions, and the rest of the disturbing stories that occupy media headlines. Brad drove his car into his garage and then sealed every doorway and window as best he could. He got back into his car and wound down all the windows, selected his favorite radio station, started the car and revved it to a slow idle. Two days later, a worried neighbor peered through his garage window and saw him in the car. She notified the emergency services and they broke in, pulling Brad from the car. A little sip of water and, surprisingly, he was in perfect condition, but his Tesla had a dead battery. And yes, Brad is a registered California Democrat.

Haha, I'll be telling that one for a while. ;D ;D

I guess they need to make the Red emergency handle with a bigger label :o
-
Sadly most of the folks killed in the fires in California were not the problem. They were victims of urban government, but i'm pretty sure my car could take out a garage door in an emergency.

I hope this is just one of those "urban legends".
