The ground squirrel range has been obstructed for a few years with an old warer tank and my broken '70 Blazer too close to the backstop. I moved them today as far as I could with the tractor. I need to pull the Blazer a little further back with with the winch on the '06. Not being able to use the shooting deck to thin the rodent residents is part of the rattle snake issue. I'll finish moving the Blazer tomorrow and getting the newest dog used to shooting or find her a new home. I love her but sometimes fast shots matter. ::) By the way fish emulsion fertilizer is great for the vegetable garden until the dogs smell it. >:(

I have a few things to play with. Among them a Daisy 853 .177 ten meter target rifle. It only shoots 500 fps but will do head shots all day long out to about 50 ft. which is where most of this will be done. I also have my sons Gamo Shadow Express a .22 air rifle/shotgun. Shot shells at 1000fps and pellets a 750fps. I haven't fired any shot yet but have read some positive reviews. The bad thing with it is there is only a ventilated rib and a front bead. There is always the bull barrel scoped 10/22 and some other old stuff around if ranges get longer. I'll try to break the dog in on the air rifles. I wish I had a supply of 22 shorts and CBs. They are quiet and far more deadly than most people think.
I stuck the winch on the Silverado today and got the Blazer well out of the way. What a cool tool, too heavy but cool. Maybe the synthetic rope will help when I get it on.

Get ya some of this...pretty darn quiet...the 22short makes a lot more noise.
BTW: If you have a heavy barrel 10/22...even less noise with the CCI Quiet ammo.

Thanks, I'll try and find some of that. Pretty slim pickings' around here right now. It trickles in to the stores and they limit sales and it is gone fast. I talked to an old couple, I'm only 76, who make the rounds of the local shops and buy their 1 box daily limit of 22LR at each place that has it. They have the delivery schedule down and when each store puts ammo on the shelf. I guess they have to mask up now. ::) It's funny seeing people wearing masks buying guns and ammo. ;D

Wouldn't mind trying some of the "Segmented Hollow Point" Quiet...let me know how you make out. FYI the higher you raise the muzzle the more noise they make....makes sense the sound waves will expand more.
Hope they recoil enough in the 10/22 to cycle...if not just pull the lever back manually.

While I was in Florida last week I went to nine different gun stores, several of them were tactical, not my cup of tea. Then some of the others were very small hardly had anything, one of the store owners of one these shops told me about another one that was just a few miles away. Went there and they had inventory of ammo,guns, reloading supplies and plenty of it, I was surprised with the amount of stuff they had, I found things I had been searching on line for, If anyone is interested send me a PM and I'll give you their contact information.

I am reading that the shortage is partially because of lack of employees/workers and also because gun sales are up, so there is greater demand for ammunition. It seems most people are against defunding/dismantling the police, but since it is happening they have decided to be prepared to protect themselves.

FYI only...Brownells and MidwayUSA both had primers today...bad news in that we can only buy 1000 at a time...so with shipping and haz mat fee - they are about $100 per 1000.
Been buying powder from the Hodgdon web site...but the shipping and haz mat figures in again for powder. The haz mat cost is the same for 1000 or 5000 primers and 1lb or 10lbs of powder...so I'm waiting until I can buy more in bulk. In the meantime I have a mixed brand of small pistol primers (7K) and about 7lbs of Winchester 231 powder.
Have 6000 Winchester large rifle primers and 1000 Winchester large pistol primers that I'll never use.

Speaking of shortages how about spray paint. I've decided to change the engine color for my roadster. Looking for maroon/burgandy and could find little on line and today even less in local stores. I was told at Lowes that is due to a shortage of cans.

Yes!! I didn't give it much thought until I saw your post. I was at Home Dept last week looking for spray paint, the shelves were half empty. I just thought they were in the middle of stocking the shelves.

Some things are starting to show up.
A friend gave me 200 rounds of 45 Colt reloads yesterday. He did them and they were a little hotter than he was comfortable shooting in his Colt and knew my Rugers would be fine with them. They are nowhere near my deer hunting load. :o I want to try them in my Marlin carbine.

I just loaded up some 223's with acc2200 19.8g with a 55gn fmj shot few of them seems to be a good combination. I'll to put some on paper to see how well my rifle likes them

That's the important thing. That and keeping records of what does and doesn't work. I left too much of that to memory back when working up a load was so cheap and easy.

Looks like fun to me! The .45 would probably make a mess of it though. :o To think that not so many years ago all carnivals and boardwalks had shooting galleries with real 22s. How we've changed, can you even imagine what would happen today? :(

That is so true. I remember, not that long ago, there was a shooting gallery on the boardwalk here, now long gone. There is still a shooting gallery that shoots bb's out of, what looks like a Thompson. Not the same, but it's something.

Yes keeping a record of your load data is important, I've got hundreds of 38 super and 45acp that I've loaded that I don't remember the combination I used.

A lot of my load records are on the targets I used to test them with the intention of putting the information in my notebook. I have quite a stack of targets. :) There are also notes and loads circled and underlined in old reloading books and magazines. Almost all of this is from before i owned a computer. This would be a good winter project. 8) Maybe winter after next, ::)

Index cards with the load data printed on it and kept in the box with the ammo. This is what I was thinking

Sometimes I have written the information on the box or on an adhesive label on the box, but I need a more permanent location for when the box gets lost or wears out. It's good the have to information with the ammo but for me it needs to be near the reloading bench too.
