Smoke, Wine, Quiet 22 rounds

The Smoke from the fires in California is thick. Right now I can see less than a mile and it has been worse. A couple of days ago I was thinking of just sitting some ribs on the porch to smoke. It was one of the reasons that the Inliners International Convention was postponed till spring. It was set for the end of September. Some say these fires will burn into December. COVID is an issue too. We need an expensive government study to see how long the virus can live in the smoke. ::)

I bottled the last 6 gallons of prickly pear wine. It came out better than last years which was good enough to be all gone.  :) The next batch is ripening fast and will likely have a smokey flavor.

My order of CCI Quiet 22 rounds arrived. They were out if the simiauto rounds so I got the other ones. They are right they won't cycle my 1022 but they are much quieter.  If you live in town your neighbor could still hear them. If you had a little range in you shop probably not. Much quieter than my profanity.  :o  After a few hand cycled rounds a case got stuck in the breach. I'll use them in the bolt and pump rifles. I haven put them on paper yet and the ground squirrels were not out. I was hitting rocks about the size of squirrel heads at 30 yards with the scope set for regular long rifles. My skittish dog didn't run as far away and came back sooner.  8)

I was at the right place at the right time this morning, I was coming back from the Frog Follies a car show in Evansville In. it's a great little show only pre.1958 allowed. On the way home stopped by a gun store and they had small pistol and small rifle primers I scored a couple boxes, I'm a happy camper :)

Great! I hope it is coming back.  Right place-right time is the key. I'm still not shooting a lot to hang on to what I have. I can hear guys blasting away at a couple of shooting spots a couple of mile away. I'm more worried about them starting a fire than stray bullets. :(

EDNY:
Started a local online forum for trading reloading supplies and as of this very afternoon collected 13,200 small pistol primers. Bad news is that they are a mix of CCI, Federal, Winchester and Fiocchi.  Of that total 3500 are (primo) Federal Match that I put aside.

Now have 11lbs of W231 powder and a couple hundred pounds of certified Lyman #2 alloy for casting bullets.

Will now keep my eyes open for more of the softer Federal primers.

Wow, That will make it a lot easier to justify some practice.
