Finding a winter camp site.

Rattiac:
Had to get out of the house. Even the woman said can we go camping.
Looking at a new area, we found a nice spot by a reservoir.
Even looked at some of the animal tracks nearby.
First one is probably a fox pouncing for mice.
The 2nd im not sure, maybe a rabbit.

Also had her take her first shots with the handgun and the shotgun after given a good safety talk on how to handle em. She did good.

Winter camping is cool! ;D
The bottom tracks are rabbit, whatever variety of cotton tail is in the area. The top could be fox or coyote, it's hard to gauge the size. Coyotes can leave pretty small tracks. Studying tracks can be a really fun pastime. Fresh snow lets you know What's are around.  :o
Bears look like this. This one circled the house a couple of times.

Like sixball noted ..hard to gauge the size from the pictures...but the top could be a small female coyote.  If you can locate a walking straight line - coyote staggers like a domestic dog, a fox prints a straight line like a domestic cat.  The bottom track looks like a squirrel...but you would know if the terrain supports squirrels (trees nearby)....but it does print like a small cottontail around here.

I have some coyote hunters (night hunters) invited to my property for this weekend....a female coyote got one of our chickens Sunday.  It's the time of year when they come looking for pets right in your yards.  I keep traps staked and in plastic bags around my property year round..when needed I dig them out and make sets.

This video was last night with most every night at my mainland home have a pack of wild coyotes going through my backyard 12 acres! Plus this video is taking inside my house with all the windows and doors shut! Here’s a YouTube video link

Also most summer nights at my Eastham Cape Cod home backyard on their same path on the ocean side National Park!

I did notice straight line tracks nearby at the first pic. Good thing we just scouted out the area that day. Hopefully we'll camp out there soon. The wife ordered a better coat for it.

Sounds like we all need a "trail cam". Im seriously considering getting one for trips like these.
Can you imagine what creeps around your camp while sleeping. 😱
Might try some ice fishing or rabbit hunting while out there. Only saw 2 others fishing and one RV that had a (breaking bad) vibe to it.
