I'll believe it when I see it. The new Tesla GIGA plant is just over the hill from me. Nevada gave away their sovereignty to Tesla. Hundreds of acres , no taxes, no environmental restrictions, and evidently no concern for the health of the workers. P.T. Barnum had nothing on the modern Tesla spokesmen.

Our power grids wouldn't be able to handle all this charging, especially the east coast.
Big daddy Don made a top fuel electric dragster, never caught on.

I have read more than one article talking about whether or not electric powered cars really are an effective and clean way of saving energy. Apparently when you account for the fact that the majority of energy in the US is derived from fossil fuels: in 2014, data showed 25% of the nation's energy came from petroleum, 22% from coal, and 22% from natural gas and the loss that results from generation and transmission the electric energy vs direct production of power by burning the fuel in an internal combustion it becomes a break even proposition at best. As Rattiac stated you would also have to expand the generation and distribution system extensively to be able to handle the demand and the energy required to create the infrastructure and generate enough power to supply the entire US fleet would actually create a net gain in total emissions....Not to mention the subsidies that the government offers these companies to make it appear as though the products they are producing are cost effective. Sixball is right about PT Barnum...We are all being played as suckers by the environmentalist and businesses that are smart enough to take advantage of the situation .

Tesla has that all covered. In a promo for their Powerwall and the larger commercial storage thing the spokesman tell how easy it will be to turn the entire in a solar powered clean world. The US would only need 90,000,000 of the large batteries, every roof covered with photovoltaic panels. He mentions nothing of the mining and manufacturing that would have to take place. How many years it would take to produce them and how they could replace thievery 10years. The Giga plant over the hill from me is not done yet partly because the workers were getting sick from the long hours and poorly ventilated work areas. This company is running on the ignorance of the Green Global Climate Change Blame America Movement. They condemn fossil fuels and think electricity just appears. Lithium Ion batteries have some serious environmental issues as do nickel cadmium batteries. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
