The exhaust system on my 1930 Coach under the rear gas tank which does not give much clearance to the ground.  I was thinking about turning them down  before the rear axle, but am concerned about fumes and safety.  Any of you guys with this period car got any ideas to share?

 Here in CANADA I believe it is illeagle to have the exhaust exit before the end of the cab. Hence my lowrider silverado exhaust exits in front of the rear tires with dual flowmasters  mooseman

I am not a fan of exhaust in front of the wheels of a car that is regularly street driven, the exhaust can be overpowering.

I would keep it to the sides either in front or after the tires if possible. under the car the fumes might get to you on a long haul and wouldn't be very healthy in the short haul either.

On my 34 coupe the pipes come out in front of the rear tires...personally don't like it because of the constant exhaust noise.

On my 33 coupe which is channeled went straight out back but had no room to go over the rear axle..so went below the axle, have plenty of clearance and the noise goes straight out the back.

For my 33 I ran mine over the axle and along the sides of the fuel tank out to the back.  I'm not sure how much room you have there but I needed to clear the rear shocks too.  Hears a few pics of when I was fitting it up.

I like the way you handled your exhaust, I don't think I have the room to squeeze the pipes between my tank and leafs.  I will give it another look though.

On my 27 when I first drove it the exhaust ended in front of the rear axel and the drone was unbearable, and it's a open car. So I ran it out under the axel and gas tank. Not what I consider to be the perfect way. Ihave a idea what your up against but for me out the back is the only way

A couple of pics of the tailpipes. Made from stainless from speedway motors. Ask for scraps and they are much cheaper. Slash cut and polished at home. Slight jogs put in them from the local muffler shop.

I ran mine over the rear axle and under the tank on the 32 and I have plenty of ground clearance. Been driving it for 4 years and so far so good. I would think that your can't be too much lower.

Exhaust exiting head of the wheels/axle on a pickup, coupe, or roadster might be safe but annoying if it is loud. Exhaust exiting ahead of the rear passenger area is asking for trouble.
