Most of us are aware of the importance of a properly balanced engine assemble. An out of balance engine is annoying to drive and even worse is probably destined to early failure of it's components . You might be able to tolerate a certain amount of imbalance in a regular passenger car engine but in a high performance engine where RPM's are usually much higher it's critical that the reciprocating and rotating parts are all working together to offset and cancel out damaging vibrations. Attached is an article that discusses the processes that a machine shop must follow in order to get everything in sync to produce a smooth and efficient engine.
