Dark in the barn..used a late 80's early 90's Camaro shifter, 700R4 and 4L60E are the same. Because the Camaro seats are so low and the driveline forward, the shift cable lays almost flat from shifter to transmission.
In the 33 Chevy I made an aluminum enclosure and mounted the shifter at a forward angle so the cable wouldn't bind. (The 700R4 is directly below the shifter in the 33). The shifter setup fits nicely inside the S10 bench seat.
Cut a selector indicator window and mounted a military style brake lever to the enclosure. Nothing fancy but it works and allows me to use the neutral safety switch, console light and back-up light (if wanted).
Yes - used a lot of aluminum diamond plate, floor, shifter and door panels next.
BTW: Used the same shifter in my son's 37 Chevy but welded linkage on the side, bolted it the floor, cut a floor slot for the linkage and connected it to the 4L60E via an adjustable linkage. Works great, and has the safety switched, back-up etc all wired in.
Just hate to throw out good parts....
