Title: Fitchburg Drag Reunion
Post by: Cool53 on April 25, 2014, 02:56:59 PM
According to sources at the Fitchburg Airport there will be no racing there this year.  It has been shut down forever. The FAA wants no part of drag racing. The big item was racing TOWARDS the active runway. John wanted no part of turning the track around. He wouldn't even discuss it with me. He became very caustic when I approached him about it. Common sense would have any racing going the other way. This may have killed drag racing at any airport. That's why I decided not to participate in last year's race. As a matter of fact I boycotted it.

That's too bad when people can't or wont get together to solve a problem.

Nothing stays the same, nor can it ever be the way it was.The period from the late 40's to early 70's can only be a memory for most of us.Too many lawers, and too many people looking for a way to sue someone over anything.Regulations and people unwilling to work with others. Its a sad time indeed.

I go back a ways, and the most fun always revolved around people racing for fun, not for profit. When a racing day becomes a way for a person to make money then the fun is over, such as this case.
We are trying for a local place, and we also have a friend who owns a couple thousand acres just over the line in NH. He is looking to see if he could build a short drag strip where we could all have fun. With volunteer help and no incentive towards profit it keeps the dogs (lawyers) at bay. I'll let you know on both counts.
