All,
I am thinking about hanging it up in 10 months, but must admit the idea is a little scary. I have been doing this for 38 years and to not have to get up and go will be very strange. I think I will need some structure. Any advice?

I had the same thoughts when I was getting ready to retire. I finally did it and decided to just go with the flow. You will always find plenty of things to keep you occupied and in fact I think I have less free time now than before I retired. I sure wouldn't want to go back to a full time job....Having too much fun playing ;D

I don't get nearly as much done as when I was working. I guess I needed the outside structure or have been made to believe I did. I think people who worked in their own business or ran a business for the owner don't have this problem. They are self-starters anyway.Still I don't know how I ever found the time to work. The last job I had was only 2 days a week and I grew to resent that. I wish I could make myself think I was working 2 or 3 days a week for the guy that owns my shop. ::)

Munch, If you have a good retirement plan and a good nest egg....enjoy yourself. You have a hobby as the rest of us do, with old cars. Get yours dialed in and do some traveling in it. ;) Then maybe buy another project to fix/peddle. Key is to keep active.
Sixball may be onto something there. I've known some guys that retired after working for someone else all their life, no real hobbies and didn't know what to do. They end up couch patatoes in bad health. I would still be at it 10hrs a day if my body could take it. That's what drives me nuts! I've always been go go go. Everytime I sit down I feel guilty for not getting something done.

Haha! This is a good topic. I just went to my pension board this morning and signed my retirement papers!!!! I know how you feel, Munch. For me it will be a little different, though. I have worked at this job for 36 years. I signed up to retire in 4 years and it is irrevokable! It all sounds good, but it is very scary to quit something you have done for so long, and I still feel like I have alot of life left in me. I get restless when I am on vacation, it's hard to imagine the rest of my life.
For what it is worth, Munch, everybody I talk to tells me "there is life after retirement". Good luck!! Maybe you will have time to build more cars. ;D

Munch..I retired when I was 62..best thing I ever done...I was in a supervision role for 40 years and it was getting hectic....always have something to do when I retired..just getting materials and supplies to do them is a hassel ...just keep your health is the main thing...and Every day is a Saturday when your retired

As Chopper said great topic. I plan to retire in 4 years and 10 months but who's counting! As busy as my life is now, I'll have no problem staying busy. At this point in my life with 2 grand kids and another on the way I'm always on the go. I still need to finish my 33, plenty of stuff to do around the house. I'll need time to travel, go fishing with friends and drive the shi#! out of my 33. We've worked hard and saved as much as we could so I'm looking forward to enjoying it.
Maybe when I'm traveling the country I'll stop in and check up on the rest of you guys that are retired ;D

I had my own company that paid the bills, but didn't make me rich by no means. I had to close it up when my health took a turn back in 2012. I like what I am doing every day now that I can get up in the morning and go to my garage and make a few dollars building someone elses hot rod, which is what I wanted to do all along. As everyone is saying keeping busy is the secret. And there is alway fishing during the slow times. ;D

Thanks for the input guys, I need to stop worrying and go for it. Getting the 30 ready to travel will keep me busy and a home always needs something.
