Title: Which rear axle swap for full size Chevy
Post by: EDNY on May 14, 2013, 09:25:58 AM
Setting up my son's 37 Chevy 4dr full fendered sedan and need a complete rear axle. What axle swaps have worked for you and what wheel/tire size & backspace have you used?

He wants the car low so the tires need to center in the fenders.

Thanks

I used a 53 Dodge Coronet rear end in my 39. I had American wheels but I can't remember what the specs were (this was back in the 60's). As I remember most any rear end form a  50's car would have fit but I used the Dodge because it was easier to hook up to the Dodge hemi that I was using.I would guess that you could come up with some workable combination that would work with either the 2WD or 4WD S10 depending on what wheels decide to go with.

Thanks Moose..I should have mentioned that I need to look for what's current (common). It's even getting hard to find a GM 8.5" (10 bolt) rear end.  Heard that the Ford Explorer 8.8 might work....just trying to see what has been used recently.
