V.I.N. Decoding-36 standard 5-window
« on: April 27, 2014, 10:19:15 AM »
As I mentioned in another thread of mine that my coupe is missing the vin tag.  However, in some paperwork I received with the car came this...

5FC-40-xxxxx.

It is my under stand that the numbers in the middle portion of the VIN represent the month of manufacture.  Is it possible to have "40" as a month?  Would it not look something like this.....

Jan    01
Feb    02
Mar    03
Sept   09
Dec    12

Chuck, I don't know what to think of that. My '35 std is  5EC-11- xxx. Maybe they transposed the 0 and 4? Or maybe  space not stamped then 4, which might leave-0XXXX ( 5FC-  4-0XXXX).  Just a guess, I really don't know

According to my 1940 Chevrolet parts book............a model FC is a STANDARD SERIES , having a wheelbase of 109 inches.  General data.== Body styles made : town sedan, sport sedan, sedan, coach, cabriolet ( convert ) , sedan delivery.  stock tire size is 5.25 x 17

I think the standard series had the beam axle with elliptical springs ?
the master series had the knee action system.

madmike, you are correct, the masters have the knee action system and standards have the beam axle and elliptical springs.
