If they knew there are two different ones they should have asked which one you needed. If you want a new one like you have any auto parts store can get one. You may have to convince the counter person that they can get it. Is the clean band on the old one as far as it went into the tranny? I can see why you wanted it in there a little more. You are right on all counts, Sixball. The shop said they didn't know there are two sizes and they only carry the size they sent me, their only option is to return it. I can buy a new one easy enough, but they're about $70. So my choices are: $70. for new yoke, $70. to return the drive shaft (and then buy another somewhere) or use my existing yoke? I think my best option is to use the existing yoke. Which as you pointed out goes in as far as that clean band, this new drive shaft will push it in about another inch, I think that will be ok.

It will look old soon enough. I've put new wood in my '53 twice and it looks as bad as when I first did it in '75. I have an old parts '52 GMC long bed with the original wood that was painted black and it looks almost new. I also had the metal strips for the '53 bed powder coated they are oxidized and scratched up now too, but it is used as a truck and gets to play hot rod on special days. If I do the bed again I think I'l try the TREX material for outside decks.
Here's the start of my drive shaft loop. I had some 1/4" steel lying around, wish I had an anvil. Trying to get this stuff round, it wears you out!
