🥶 Deep freeze
« on: February 15, 2021, 08:06:25 AM »
It's been a long time since we have been this cold for so long. Just before I woke up this morning,  I was wondering when the a/c was going to kick on. 🥵 Woke up and i had kicked all the covers off and was sweating, it must have been 80°. The furnace must have been running overtime upstairs.

Checked weather....-13° below zero and wind chill of -35°🥶 100 miles west it was -18° (Ulysses) and up NW Kansas (Colby) -23°. I'm ready for spring already!

I wondered how you guys were doing. 'ol Duke was tall enough to get thru most, or bull his way thru drifts. But when he stopped to pee, his feet would get cold and he would look like a lizard on hot sand ...lifting one front and one rear foot then exchange😁

The electric company sent out a text for rolling black outs. Guess sending juice to Texas?  And they think we can all go to electric heat and cars etc. Hell they can't get enough electricity now😡
Ya, lets shut all the pipe lines down, great idea!

We did get up to 5° today when wind went down and sun came ouy. Checked for cast.....thursday night will really thaw things out at 140° 🤔 Might need the A/C for that!

That's really cold for you mid-west guys!  32° here this morning and freezing rain.
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

I see some folks are struggling....wondering how the wildlife and trees are going to cope with the temps.

We've had snow and temperatures in the 20's - 30's for the last week of two, but today it's supposed to go up to 50! Go figure, but I'll take it.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Must have an idiot in charge of the electric power commission...rolling blackouts shut power down for 1-1.5 hrs like I experienced this morning...house cools down then we throw the heat on to get it back to a comfortable state...imagine all the people doing  in order to conserve power.....-14 last nite....next week back in the mid 50's....

Looks like weather report time. Here it is single digits at night and low 20's during the day.
Rain turned to ice then snow then back to ice. Mother Nature is trimming the trees.

Sounds like ENRON again.  ???

On a lighter note::;
We went camping for Valentines. Driving in a snow storm in the middle of nowhere like "what are we doing ". Pic 1.
Had a great camp spot and nobody around for miles

Wanted to fish the resivour but the wind kicked up and decided to go jeeping instead.
Explored 2 trails,  both got a bit off camber and deep snow. Played it safe and turned around.
Trailer did well in the cold temps.
I have PTSD.

Ed , looks like you were a day behind on the cold. We are not going to get in to the twenties till tomorrow.
There is no shortage of NG like they hint to. I guess condensation in lines south are freezing up.  They must really bury lines shallow down that way.  Local news said same....to conserve to avoid shut downs🥴  They are going to price gouge like crazy on this, local news said to expect NG gas bills to go up to 10x😡.
Those rolling blackouts for a couple hours use more elect and gas usage trying to catch back up. I think thats what they want, greedy SOB's.

62131,  when this cold snap started we had 2 nights of heavy fog that froze everything thick white. My tree branches were touching the ground. Luckily the wind hadn't kicked up past 20mph before it freeze dried off and didn't lose any🙂.

Rattiac, I did the snow camping once!  It went ok, but not willing to purposely do it again😁

I feel for you guys. It's been nice here compared to that.We are hearing a lot about frozen wind turbines in Texas. 2.000 cold shocked sea turtles washed up on the gulf coast. Crazy stuff! Texas is suffering because the green energy they have come to depend on is covered with white. We need diversity in energy too.
