Assembly Reqjired
« on: February 19, 2016, 08:44:24 AM »
These are the parts for the headlight buckets I cleaned up.  I cannot get them back together where they are tight, the trim ring stays loose.  I'm missing something, but I have flipped things every which away.

Can someone explain the order of reinstalling these parts.  They are for a 1930.

Thanks

TFoch

Munch,
Those are different from mine.  Not sure how they would go back together.
Tom
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Thanks Tom, I will stick with it.  It has to be something that I am doing wrong, but I sure am trying.

I wonder if there was a cork gasket under the glass lens to keep it from rattling?

I am sure there was a gasket. My clamping bracket on the headlights I used on the buick looks the same as yours and I needed the gasket. On mine the lens went in the trim ring first and then the gasket and then the clamp down bracket then place the trim ring and tighten the screw to hold everything to the bucket. I hope this helps. The gasket was a paper piece about 1/8th inch thick. You could probably use a piece of the cardboard upholstery board that is used on most cars. I believe the gasket material hold the clamp portion out aways to better attach the trim ring.

That is great info Ghost, I was not sure about the gasket.

When mounted my trim ring doesn't mount flush over the bucket, but back leaving about 3/8s to a 1/4 seam.
Is that how yours does?  I will try to get a picture tonight.

Just had look at the headlights there is definitely a rubber seal between the lens and rim looks like about 1/8 inch, mines really rotten.I think you need rubber to make a good seal to keep moisture out, hope this helps you out
