It's been since my early teens that I've built a model car. Generally I've never owned a car that they've made a model of.
So I found a Dakota truck kit and made it as close to mine as I could.

Nice job Rattiac. I remember the same trying to find specific models also. My little brother was always looking for a '67 RS/SS Camaro convertible like his. When he was 13-14 he found it. Someone had thrown it away in our local city dump. We have never seen a model kit of it except for this one. No way to identify manufacturer. He has since looked up all model companies on the internet for that specific model, no where to be found. Often wondered if it was a GM demo model?

That is cool, well done. I tried one like my '53 once. It didn't come out that nice.
Even through high school some friends & I built models. The AMT 3 in 1 kits were the favorite. It was at the time when many hobbies shops sponsored contests. I had lots of them but none are left. It sort of morphed into slot racing then faded away. I still have a bunch of unbuilt/unfinished kits my sons left here when they moved out. By the time they start there was no good glue. ::)
My hands and eye make that kind of work near impossible now. :(

Might be surprised what some of those are worth these days. Even my lil truck was pricey. Started out at $75 and got him down to $48 after a few weeks.

Wow, I thought $1.25 was pricey for the AMTs. :) Maybe I should make a list of what is there.

My buddy was telling me he spotted a model that he wanted but passed due to price. The first AMT model kits when i got the bug cost $.89. Then the big jump to $1.19 in the mid 60s. Then you had the new (local anyway) restriction on minors could not purchase testors glue. That lemon sent stuff sucked! I was like a teenager out side the store, " hey mister, would you buy me a six pack"😁 I always talked somebody into picking me up a tube.

I remember that scented glue very well, but it was orange around these parts. A friend of mine gave me two boxes full of old car model kits, most from the mid 60's to early 70's. I have them packed away, but I'll break them out and take some pictures, they sure bring back some memories

We would sneak beer & cigarettes from our folks but never thought about sniffing glue. Our obsession was building the models. My brother was 5 years older than me and married and he was into it too.
One of my best jobs was a '40 Ford hot rod hearse complete with a wooden coffin. I used 2 '40 sedan bodies. Later I think they made a sedan delivery kit. That would have been easier. ;D It was an activity several of my friends often did together. It kept us off the street for untold hours.

Nice work on the pickup Rattiac! I still have a couple old AMT models I never built. My 8 year old grandson has been eyeing them and wants to build them this summer.
