How I long for retirement!

I don't know how close you are to retirement, but I know what you mean. I am not far behind you in age, and I don't want to do this "work" thing much longer. Problem is, I have lots of bills and little boys who like to eat. Anyway, retirement will be here before you know it! Let's enjoy today. Happy birthday, buddy.

The local auto parks store says I can work for them if they have room. That sounds good...

I worked most of my career at Charleston County, but lost my contract in 2002 to an Indian firm that low balled the services. Dorchester needed an IT guy to rebuild what they called a "crashed and burned" department and I needed a job. It has been great fun building the infrastructure and network from scratch but, like I said, the politics take the fun away.

Maybe I'm just getting to old...

I have about 1 inch difference in height from the driver's side to the passenger. I'm guessing it is the between the body mounts. I played around with 3/4 inch rubber spacers between the body and frame thinking it could cushion the ride, but I think I should concentrate on the suspension instead.

The car came with a Kugel IFS but the coilovers were collapsed so much to get the front end down that it rode terrible. After talking to them, I was able to adjust them so that the ride improved substantially. Next I have a triangle four link for the rear end.

I think all I should have between the frame and body is some rubber strips.

QUESTION YOU SAY THE COILOVERS WERE COLLAPSED SO MUCH, to get the front end down, that it rode terrible ? So the coil overs were at the bottom of the threads with no extra pressure on them. How does having the coil overs in this position affect the ride.

my 35 coupe with kugel IFS has the coil overs in this position at the bottom of the threads and it rides like a jaguar pussy cat smooth. My understanding is you tighten/wind the coils up the threads to raise the vehicle.??????????????

Post by: munch on October 09, 2014, 12:25:58 PM: You are right, I had it backwards. Anyhow it was not just the ride, it seem to be handling as well or maybe my getting use to it. This is my first hot rod. Mr. Kugel suggested adjusting the coilovers until the sat more level and not down like they were. That and correct air pressure help a lot.

Post by: madmike3434 on October 09, 2014, 03:47:04 PM: when I installed the kugel front IFS suspension in my 35 coupe back in 1996, I was coming from a custom super dropped 4 1/2' beam axle that was heavily diego'ed in the front, where the bumper I believe was at 6" off the road...see picture.

It was very hard to turn that mustang based steering system when stopped. I found the kugel with R & P to be light and easy to manhandle. Even the wife finds it easy. This is without any power steering , as Joe K said I would not need it.

I like the kugel system so much I have one sitting in boxes in my basement waiting to be installed onto the frame for my 35 roadster. This time i elected not to have any of it polished and just go with the naturel stainless steel finish, which is about $500 less.

In the avatar of your car , appears to be a 30--32 chev coupe. There is people on ebay selling frame rubber sets for the 29--32 chev. Basically they are about 1/4" thick rubber with the hole for the body bolt.

Fords use a roll of webbing on the frame , sticky one side.

You can shim the body for the doors gaps on the #2 & #3 body bolts so your gaps are perfect and body lines line up.

Inside the doors is a 3/16 or 1/4" rod going from the top door glass bottom edge to the bottom corner. By tightening this rod with a turnbuckle in the middle you can pull in the bottom corner of the door so it aligns even with the quarter panel.

you just learn this stuff from the owners manual and the body repair book Gm produced and both are sold on ebay
