Title: super red ram
Post by: 62131 on September 24, 2013, 08:33:19 PM
Hey guys I just ran across a complete super red ram engine and transmission. Running when removed stored inside a garage.  Does anybody have any knowledge on this engine and what it would be worth?

I did a yahoo search of "super red ram engine" and found a lot of informative history....but nothing with a value yet.

Here is one link discussing the Poly and Hemi:

EDNY thanks for the link. I checked it out and found that what I have located is a Hemi not a poly the plugs go threw the valve covers. I think that it would be a nice little engine to have just for the rarity of it. I was told it only had 78k miles on it when it was pulled, I would like to find some information on how start an engine that has been setting for a while like this one.

Moose  I found this chart, what I have located is a super red ram engine with 78k miles w/ auto transmission
and 2 barrel carb. stored in a garage complete from oil pan to breather. By the chart it is a D553-1001 I'm trying to find what it is worth.

The 270 red ram Hemi or baby Hemi as there known as. If you can get it started, and it runs good stock should bring in the neighborhood of $1.000.00 to $1,500.00 to someone building a cool little hot rod. As for making sure it turns over freely take all the plugs out and soak the cylinders with oil and let it sit and every once in awhile try to turn it with a braker bar on the front crank bolt or the flywheel .  Once it turns freely then start it if it will, it will smoke like a  diesel for a little while. GOOD LUCK

My intentions are to put oil in the cylinders remove the valve covers lube the rocker arms and push rods, change the oil after rotating engine the with a  breaker bar several time, remove distributor  and rotate oil pump and try to circulate oil if possible then try to start it.

Sounds like a good plan. I hope it runs for ya. They are neat little engines.
