32 glass ???
« on: December 19, 2023, 01:33:40 PM »
For giggles I was looking up some glass windows for my 32.
Shockingly I couldn't find any.  Filling station didn't have anything on thier website and alot of ebay site's say they can get any glass but can't.
My glass guy that did my windshield is gone and his quote at the time for custom made was pretty low priced.
Where are you guy's getting windows from  ?

I've seen on a few sites people talking about getting their glass from Bob's Classic Auto Glass listed below in vendors section. It use to be any decent glass company would cut lamintated flat glass for you if you brought them the pattern or old glass. Think that is another lost art coming soon as the old guy's retire.

We use to use an old guy that opperated out of a small 15x15 shed. Dad said he had almost all glass patterns from the early 1900s up. Everytime i would call him, i would ask if he had that pattern, he always answerd Yes i do😁 Had him cut some custom sizes, he just said bring me a pattern. His edges were alway nice and smooth. Always reasonabley priced, cheap actually.

We use to replace school bus flat winshields, if they weren't broke to bad i would sa ve them for my projects, vent window, side glass. Dad showed me how to cut glass so between him and watching that old man, i did a fair job.

Had one cut for my 33 Chevy at my auto local glass shop.  Got to pick the tint, took about 2 days and was under $100. Made a pattern out of particle board for him to trace.

Made a full set of window patterns for a 33 Chevy 5W with 2.5" chop.

I did a couple of side windows for my pickup and some fro my son's Studebaker wagon. I broke a couple smoothing  the edges too.

I had glass for my Essex done by a local run of the mill window glass facility. Normal
clear laminated glass made from my 1/8" thick masonite kind of material patterns.
edges were sanded, corners round and nice. It came out greatt, and was pretty cheap too.
