During those 100 plus days last week, my fan blower motor took a crap on me. I had to replace it when the unit was 6yrs old due to the jute silencer pads came lose and closed up both ends of the squirrel cage, only when running😡 that was 12yrs ago and a new motor and capasitor was $68. Now replacement was $150, not a bad increase.

Talked to a couple HVAC  guys and the first question they had was what type filters do you have, I told them 3M Hepa Filtrete. With having Golden Retrivers i thought that was a good thing. They both told me to quit using those as they restrict the air flow to much  and overheat the motor, more so in summer. Said the old fiberglass filters catch most hair and dander.

I guess that makes sense, I hadn't thought of that. Does that sound right to you guys?

I usually change filters 4-5 times a year. Thought I could tackel it my self, nope. Coudn't get the pvc intake/ exhaust tubes unplugged to get them out of the way, and i couldn't lift the squirrel cage assy out😡 Had to call my buddy who has a grip and can easily lift 25lbs, i got no grip left and max 20lb lift ability🙄

Got new motor installed in assy, wire connectors on. Waiting for the new capasitor to arrive and get Tom back here to stick it up there before the 100 plus days arrive back thursday😁

I've been told the same thing,  especially with my older furnace,  to not strain the system already.  Went back to the fiberglass filters and swapped out more often.  3x a winter.
I don't have central air (a/c) cause I've watched my dad go through 3 systems and they aren't reliable.
We just replaced his capacitor and condenser fan which was quoted at $1300 to fix.
He spent 250 for the fan ,  50 for the capacitor and did it himself.
Seems these HVAC guy's just want to sell ya a new system instead of fixing it. 

I'll stick with the good ol reliable swamp cooler but living in a desert these work great, low humidity and such.

Tom made it over to install the blower assembly back up for me. Still waiting on the capsitor. He said that when he had his system serviced this spring the man told him the same, so he changed back to fiberglass filters.

Rattiac, yes them swamp coolers are great in low humidity. When my Grand parents first moved to Branson Mo, the put in a swamp cooler.....wrong thing to do there. I broke down in Barstow Ca one trip, got a motel and each room had a swamp cooler on the roof. Man that felt Excelent in the 120° desert heat😁

I guess i got lucky when I had my Hvac system installed in Aug of '03. It is a Armstrong Air (Lennox, made in Iowa) Ultra V advanced 93% efficency. No problems at all except for blower motor fails.
Funny, i listen to an AM radio station out of Fort Worth Tx at night when i go to bed. A bunch of "If your system is 10 years or older and needs work, we recomend New". Followed by another commercial, "If you have an older unit needing repair and were happy with it.....we will repair it for you. Despite what many companies tell you....most parts are available. If your unit is in bad shape  we can sell you a new one"😁

I've been told the same thing about the Hepa filters, I use the cheap fiberglass ones and change them every month, its cheap insurance have not replaced a squirrel cage in 17 yrs

Got all replaced and back to cold air😁 There is a big difference in air duct volume with the fiberglass filters in. I guess there really is something to that. Now i wonder about the Hepa filter bag in my old Kirby vaccum cleaner🤔
