Ed

I always carry a fire extinguisher since a a friend of mine lost his '69 GTO Ram Air IV. He rebuilt the carburetor and didn't finish it until late on a Sunday night and mistakenly used a piece of vacuum line instead of fuel line to hook up the gas feed. On his way to work a couple of days later on the local freeway he noticed someone in the lane next to him pointing frantically to his left front wheel area as he was cruising along at 60 mph. He said the car was acting normally but he figured he had better slow down and pull over to see what the guy was so excited about. As he began to pull over he said all he could see was flames licking past the drivers window. By the time he got it stopped the whole front of the car was fully engulfed and it was all he could do to get out and away from the car and watch burn to the ground. Even if he had an extinguisher he most likely wouldn't have been able to stop the fire but it reminded us of how quickly a fire can spoil your day....Oh and it also taught me to make sure I'm using the correct materials in the fuel system.

I always try to carry one as well.
A few years ago a vendor at Jefferson Wis. had a fire under the hood of his Dodge van.
We got it out before any damage  happened.
His air cleaner top was off, not sure why.....

I put one under the seat of my coupe. It's not that I don't trust my workmanship, but......................... ::)
