33 plymouth build
« on: May 04, 2013, 12:03:33 PM »
This is a 33 plymouth 4 door sedan that someone cobbled together on a farm. I believe to chase jack rabbits by looking at the quality of what they did WHOOO. I am not one to put down some ones abilities, but you have got to be kidding me. They put a 318 engine and trans in it, and the engine mounts were made from 3/8th inch flat metal cut with a torch and when they did not fit tight to the frame they just did not weld them in that area. The steering was so tight to the head on the drivers side the exhaust manifold was just thrown in the car, I guess so they could say they at least had it. Well that's enough for now,  but I will continue to send some pics along as the build goes. Here are afew pics of the car and what it should and could look like....John

John,
You have your work cut out for you but it'll be a real cool ride.  You won't run into another one at the local cruise.

It turns out the car owner and his buddy was shopping the local craigs list and found this little gem for $2,200.00. It is a 31 plymouth 4 door sedan and the body and all the parts are in mint condition, it is set up with a duster rear axle and the front axle is a modified original with disc brakes. It has a 318 engine and auto trans installed in it. it should be an easy build. The owner was getting on in age and in poor health and decided to unload it, and even had a tear in his eye when they hauled it off. The 33 plymouth will go into storage. this will give him time to find all the missing parts for it and the 31 will be on the front burner at my little shop at this time because of the easy build platform.....John

Great find! Looks to be in good shape.  Never know what you'll find on craigs list.

Looks super solid. I'm glad to hear it's gonna stay all MOPAR.

Yeah it's real solid, and I am glad to keep this one all mopar also. I even talked him into doing it this way. I am gonna take the body off the chassis for frame cleaning,  painting, new engine install, and all the brake work. Then I will clean up the bottom of the car and seal it all up for the next 80 years of life. It all depends on how much money he wants to spend on the restoration....John

The frame is done and I have started the reassembly, and running all the brake and fuel lines. After that is done the engine and trans is gonna be cleaned, painted and installed. I will try to get some pic's up for everyone soon. I am excited to get on to the body clean up and repair shouldn't take too long it's in really great shape.

I finished the frame completly and was ready to start on the underside of the body. The car is gone since the end of November,  thank God.  The guy was a real low life con artist, had no money. I found out he has attempted to scam some other builders also.  He attempted it with me, but got nothing. There is a bunch of us spreading the word about him. Back to my Buick roadster project.

Too bad there are people like that.  Glad you didn't get taken.  Even happier you're back on the Buick!
